Villa Toscanella is located at close distance from the hamlet of Cedri near Ghizzano and at a stone throw from Castelfalfi. It was originally a barn on the Podere Olmi II, once part of what is now the wider Castelfalfi estate.
The origin of Castelfalfi Resort is deeply rooted in the rich history of Tuscany. The estate, where the resort now stands, was first settled during the early Middle Ages, around 700 AD, by the Lombards, specifically by a Lombard named Faolfi. The name "Castelfalfi" is derived from "Castrum Faolfi," which literally means the castle of Faolfi. Over the centuries, the ownership of the land changed hands multiple times, including a significant transition in 1139 when it was sold to the bishop of Volterra.
During the Renaissance, in 1475, the estate was renovated by Giovanni di Francesco Gaetani and his wife Costanza de' Medici, who added a villa used as a hunting lodge, further enhancing its stature and utility. However, by the 19th century, the area faced depopulation as residents moved towards urban centers for better opportunities, leading to a period of decline.
The modern era of Castelfalfi began in the 2000s when a comprehensive redevelopment project was initiated. This project transformed the once-abandoned medieval village into a luxurious resort. Today, Castelfalfi is a vibrant resort that offers a blend of tourist and real estate services, including hotels, apartments, restaurants, swimming pools, spas, conference rooms, and a golf club. This transformation respects its historical essence while providing modern luxury and amenities
